Mos Def with Robert Glasper Experiment16.7.2011 >> LP46! >> 30
Mos Def rose to the lime light in the late-90ís underground hip-hop explosion. Nowadays he is not only one of the stars in socially conscious rap, but also a successful actor, a social activist and even a clothes designer.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1973, Dante Terrell Smith AKA Mos Def started rhyming at the same time he went to school. First band was Urban Thermo Dynamics with his siblings, but that produced only two singles. Later Mos rapped on albums by De La Soul and Da Bush Babees. Then he founded Black Star with Talib Kweli. Their eponynous debut album is now a classic of socially conscious rap. In the last decade Mos has been very busy acting in: Black On Both Sides, The New Danger, True Magic and The Ecstatic. He was recently part of The Blakroc, a joint venture of some rappers and the blues rock band The Black Keys. The Gorillasí third album also featured him. Being a stern social activist, he gathered money via benefit concerts for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and the recent oil catastrophy of New Orleans.
