improvisation, avant-garde, free jazz
France's two uppermost improvisers trust their instinct and vast experience to go behind and between the commonplaces. That's where serious meets ridiculous, soothing meets sinister, abstract meets solid and funny meets sad. With trumpet and double bass the duo creates a world of their own.
Born in Belfort, France, in 1954, Jean-Luc Cappozzo started playing trumpet in a local orchestra doing jazz, classical and traditional folk music. Meeting Dizzy Gillespie in 1984 was a turning point for Cappozzo. He ended up an official Professor of jazz and a teacher of improvisation at the Music School of Lyon. He has recorded one solo album, Joy Spirit, and several duo and larger recordings with bands, like Globe Unity, Trium, Apollo, Pentacle and Louis Sclavis 5tet.
Eric Brochard (born in 1968) graduated from Poitiers Conservatory in 1997 and has played and recorded modern classical, jazz, ethnic music, circus music, music for theatre, you name it, but closest to his heart is improvisation. Brochard has worked with Marc Baron, Fred Blondy, Hasse Poulsen, Edward Perraud, Sylvain Kassap and Tim Berne, to name a few.Members:
