modern jazz with pop influence
One of Finland’s top trumpet players, Mika Mylläri pays tribute the late Danish trumpetist Lil Jörgen Petersen, who immigrated to Finland in the 50’s and ingrained himself in the national memory when his version of The Boulevard of The Broken Dreams hit the jackpot. Later Petersen had other big hits, like The Golden Trumpet.
On top of running his classy quintet, who has three albums out so far, the 6 time Trumpetist of the Year plays a lot abroad. He has worked with Reggie Workman, Andrew Cyrille, Tim Hagans and Max Roach, to name a few, and recorded in London with the Monk Liberation Front, the Ed Jones Quintet and the hip-hop/jazz mixing Us3. Schooled first by his musician dad and later at the Sibelius Academy, Mika has also composed special works for dancers, singers, strings and big bands. The Great Mystery of Passion and Northern Lights are among his most famous works. He also has a duo with pianist Ralf Nyqvist. Their album Lullabies offers Finnish and Swedish folk songs.
