Funky R&B instrumentals were a hot item especially in the swinging 60’s, but given the plastic and processed musical climate of today, it still cuts through the bullshit, like a knife. This is seriously groovy no-nonsense stuff that kicks your ass, twists your soul and definitely makes you dance.
We are talking about a seasoned foursome led by the gripping tenorist/songsmith Panu Syrjänen. Guitarist Luumu Kaikkonen, drummer Limousine Leppänen and bassman Mikko Vuorela have also been marinated in many great Finnish bands. Now they are totally mature and able to hold the syncopated rhythm in any weather. The evidence is on their recent and excellent album Soup Is Hot, where the mood changes from hot King Curtis-influenced go-go to cool blaxploitation soundtracking and psychedelic soul chill outs. Boogaloo lives!
