They donít call him The Welsh Tiger for nothing. Whether we talk about the power of voice or sheer life energy, few can equal Tom Jones. 50 plus years in the bisness havenít slowed him down at all. His lates albun, Praise & Blame, where he interprets Dylan and John Lee Hooker, among others, came out in 2010 and went straight to nr. 2 on the British chart.
Born 1940 in Pontypridd, South Wales, Tom Jones founded his powerful singing on his idols Little Richard, Solomon Burke, Brook Benton and Jackie Wilson. Right away it won him local fans, when he performed in workingmenís clubs in Wales at the dawn of the 60ís.
It rose to international level in 1964, when he recorded the melodramatic pop hit Itís Not Unusual. More massive hits followed: Iíll Never Fall In Love Again, Delilah, Green Green Grass of Home and I Who Have Nothing. Whatís New Pussycat and the James Bond theme Thunderball opened the door to the world of soundtracks.
In Las Vegas Jones is the permanent favourite. More important is, of course, that he hasnít stopped growing as an artist, but has fearlessly recorded everything from old work songs to techno. Tom was knighted in 2006 and has sung duets with everybody from Van Morrison to Wyclef Jean and Tori Amos.
