The complete program for the main concerts is now released

The program for the Pori Jazz main concerts at Kirjurinluoto Concert Park is now completed. The final releases parade mainly Finnish musicians. Pori Jazz honours the remarkable careers of two Finnish icons, legendary rock musician Tuomari Nurmio and visionary jazz pianist Heikki Sarmanto. Both men are featured in special concerts.

Tuomari Nurmio is one of the most essential songwriters and notably influential character in Finnish popular music. His unique career is celebrated in Kirjurinluoto Concert Park on Thursday, July 13thwhen “Dumari” presents quite a unique concert with selection of classics from his career expanding over five decades. There will be both songs from his latest Dumarillumarei album as well as his undying evergreens such as “Valo yössä”, “Lasten mehuhetki”, “Tonnin stiflat” and “Punainen planeetta”. On stage he will perform with his band Dumari and Spuget with Blosarit as the special guest.  The line-up will change and vary from song to song and this will most definitely be a once in a lifetime experience.

Pianist Heikki Sarmanto is one of the greatest Finnish jazz legends alive. He performed at the very first Pori Jazz back in 1966. This summer Seppo Kantonen, master of a younger pianist generation, has – by request of Pori Jazz – gathered a special ensemble to celebrate the music of Sarmanto. Kantonen has selected and arranged some of Sarmanto’s most significant compositions and Kantonen and the master, Heikki Sarmanto himself, will play them at the concert. Alongside to them on the stage will be singer Anni Elif Egecioglu, guitarist Jarmo Saari, gambist Mikko Perkola and percussionist Mikko Hassinen. The unconventional instrumentation itself will enable the unique nuances within the compositions but in addition to it possibilities of electronic music will also be subtly made use of.

LoveProge concert will be reproduced at Pori

Finnish music is on spotlight at Pori Jazz this year as Finland celebrates its 100th year of independency. LoveProge concert was premiered at Helsinki Festival last year when bassist virtuoso Lauri Porra curated a concert featuring progressive rock released by Love Records in the 70’s.  The all-star line-up of the band included among others keyboardist Jukka Gustavson, saxophonist Pepa Päivinen and drummer Sami Kuoppamäki. This unique band performed the iconic songs from Wigwam, Tasavallan Presidentti and Pekka Streng just to mention a few bands featured in the repertoire. The concert is reproduced in Kirjurinluoto on Saturday, July 15th.

Previously announced Finnish acts at Pori Jazz include Verneri Pohjola Group, Pauli Lyytinen Magnetia Orkesteri and Olli Hirvonen New Helsinki among others. New additions to the program include the pride of contemporary Finnish rock Pimeys, singer-songwriter Joose Keskitalo and current bands Virta, Jaska Lukkarinen Trio, Trio Toffa and OK:KO.

Unfortunately American artist Gabriel Garzón-Montano has cancelled his performance at Pori Jazz on Friday, July 14th. Remarkably talented British soul artist Samm Henshaw will replace him. At the same concert there is also a slight line-up change within Yussef Kamaal due to which they will perform as Yussef Dayes presents Black Focus.

The concert schedule of the main concerts is now released and available at porijazz.fi and the tickets are available at Ticketmaster Finland. The festival program will soon be reinforced with wide selection of free concerts, Pori Jazz Kids Festival and Cafe Jazz program.
