The full festival programme is now out

The complete line-up for this July’s Pori Jazz Festival is out. In addition to the Main Concerts in Kirjurinluoto Concert Park, a vast number of interesting artists and ensembles will be performing on the course of ten days, and what’s even more exciting is that most of the concerts are free.

The majority of this year’s musical acts at Pori Jazz are free, as per usual. This year, the traditional Jazz Street will be replaced by a free Jazz Park which will be built in the lush and green Kirjurinluoto Park. Free concerts will be playing on three stages.

Pori Jazz will get a remarkable start over the opening weekend with performances from such names as Kasmir, Yona, Asa & Band, Karri Koira, Vuokko Hovatta Kolmisin, and Olli Ahvenlahti New Quartet. The largest of the three stages – the legendary Lokkilava stage – has free programmed musical acts from Friday 13th until Wednesday the 18th. During the Main Concerts, Lokkilava will be part of the Kirjurinluoto Concert Park which is a ticketed venue.

The other two stages in Jazz Park are Puistolava stage and Kirjuri Summer Restaurant, both of which will have free programmed musical acts on the main concert days as well. The festival wouldn’t be complete without the atmospheric Cafe Jazz located across the river from Jazz Park.

Finnish quality Jazz music will be in the focus in the free programme, represented by Aki Rissanen Trio, Gourmet, Mopo, Antti Lötjönen Quintet East, and Joonas Haavisto Trio to name a few artists. Other genres are featured heavily as well, some picks include PK Keränen and Valtteri Pöyhönen’s brand new duo, up-and-coming singer-songwriter Antti Autio, and Jukka Nuosiainen and band who recently released a new album.

The centenary of Estonian independence will be celebrated on Tuesday 17th July at Lokkilava stage with three Estonian Jazz ensembles. Music performed in Swedish will be heard during the familiar concerts sponsored by Folktinget. On Wednesday the 18th Swedish Jazz singer Amanda Ginsburg will do her Finnish debut performance and on Thursday the 19th Nossa Bossa will lead the people at Jazz Park to the wonderful world of Bossa Nova.

In addition to the Jazz Park’s programme, some of the gigs at Cafe Jazz are free. Some of the names of those playing at this intimate indoor venue are Jussi Lehtonen Band, Riitta Paakki Quartet, Martti Vesala Soundpost Quintet, and Husband.

The 14th Pori Jazz Kids Festival is a free music event for the whole family and it’ll take place Sunday 15th – Tuesday 17th July. Some of the performers are Pomppulinnan Kreivi, Höpinätötterö, and Raka Bananer who are part of the Folktinget presenterar concert series. Concerts and activities will take place on Lokkilava stage as well as the adjacent Puistolava stage.

The full programme is available at www.porijazz.fi. Some of the headline acts of the main concerts are Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Alanis Morissette, James Blunt, Katie Melua, and Aloe Blacc. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster Finland.
