Bass virtuoso Pekka Pohjola’s trumpeter son Verneri Pohjola is one of the most renowned musicians in the Finnish jazz scene. He has been reluctant to play his fathers compositions. How ever, last fall he took up the challenge and performed some of them at Viapori Jazz and Tampere Jazz Happening. Verneri Pohjola has stated that he had quite contradictory thoughts about performing his father’s music but already at the first concert he felt that modifying the family heirloom was just what he needed after his own critically acclaimed Bullhorn album released back in 2015. In the future Pekka Pohjola’s wonderful compositions and strong melodies will be heard both live and on record as British Edition Records will release an album of Verneri Pohjola playing Pekka Pohjola. Guitarist Teemu Viinikainen, pianist Tuomo Prättälä, bassist Antti Lötjönen and drummer Mika Kallio will accompany Verneri Pohjola on the upcoming album and on stage.
