Is it okay to still use the term neo-soul in 2018? If so, then Moonchild could be a prime example of this genre. The trio comprises of Amber Navran, Max Bryk and Andris Mattson who met while studying at the University of Southern California. They have released three albums so far, the most recent of which titled Voyager came out last year. Their warm sound is an amalgamation of soul, jazz, and pop with Amber Navran’s smooth voice in the middle of everything. Moonchild can hide genius hooks within their multi-layered compositions. No wonder why an increasing number of music fanatics know their name. They have collaborated with Kamasi Washington and Jill Scott so far but it’s most likely just the beginning.
