Brian Wilson is considered as the most significant pop songwriter still actively performing, equal only to Paul McCartney. He’s known as the visionary leader of The Beach Boys though he retired from touring with the band back in 1964. He then focused on studio work and became a forerunning composer admired greatly by The Beatles among others. In 1966 – only a few months before the very first Pori Jazz festival – an album called Pet Sounds was released. It is widely acknowledged as one the finest and most important pop albums ever brought out. The iconic album includes rare pop gems such as “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” and “God Only Knows”, which Paul McCartney has ranked as the finest song ever written. The concert at Pori Jazz will be Brian Wilson’s very first appearance in Finland featuring Pet Sounds in its exact running order and entirety followed by best of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys material. The band features special guests Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin.
